March Comes in like a Sumo

QIC: Drama Queen

Date: 03/01/2022

PAX: Sgt Schultz, Ziggy Stardust, Tonka(WB), Abe Froman, Schneider, Sour Mash, BAM, Starfish, Adobe, Wobegon, SeaMan, Subfloor, Ace Ventura (FNG), Drama Queen (WD)

A chilly early morning greeted us for what would become a most pleasant day.  YHC arrived very early to check out the AO and then get in an EC run.  To his surprise when he arrived, Sgt Schultz found my car in the lot.  By 0500, 4 had gathered for a run before the nonrunning workout.  Yeah – that’s crazy.  3 went around 2 mi and Schultz did the Mash mile.

Upon our return several pax had gathered including Wobegon’s FNG, Michael wondering what he had gotten himself into.  YHC had hopes of a fairly recent FNG (Robin Hood) making a return after not posting in a few months but he called right before launch to say he had misunderstood SW Elementary for Sherwood Elementary. First Q fail.

This along with trying to get Schultz’ speaker to sync with my phone for tunes put us right at time to start and got me off my game (not that it was ever really on) to give the mission statement and disclaimer.  YHC did get some help for the core principles but that was not very smooth either.  Great first impression for the FNG.

Finally underway, we covered the standards during Warmorama finishing with Dry Dock Crabs.  It was quite the display of legs and arms going in multiple directions.

We continued with some dynamic warmups to move to the wall.  Upon arrival, we assumed people’s chair and knocked out 5 Jack Reachers by each pax down and back before recovery.

One round of fast feet on curb was followed by BTTW while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.  Round two of fast feet finished that portion of the workout.

Next we stepped in front of the curb.  4 varying movements across lot with 4 burpees each time we reached the turn.  Movements were bear crawl, crab walk, duck walk, and gator crawl.

We then moseyed to back of school to the hill.  In honor of Ukraine we worked on our guns.  Partnered up and P1 backpedaled up hill while P2 performed WMDs AMRAP.  Flapjack upon return.  Enough time for a repeato.  Next came same concept different exercises.  2 rounds of Ukrainian Hammers while hill climbers did Apollo Creeds. That finished hill work so we moseyed back to parking lot.

Since Sour Mash had stated in preblast comments that YHC’s Qs were fun, I didn’t want to let down the pax.  At this point the ropes came out of the bag for a round of Saratogas.  The fun didn’t stop there as we finished off the non Mary portion with the return of Sumo Drill.  It had not been performed in over 2 years and it was a fitting celebration for “No Mask Day”

About 3 minutes of Mary and we were done.

The aforementioned bungling of the mission and core principles was not a good look. Attempt to cover up with humor didn’t work well.  Sorry

4 EC runners were Schultz, Schneider, SeaMan, and YHC

There was some friendly (I think) Army/Navy banter with Schultz and SeaMan later in the workout – #wereallonthesameside

Sour Mash did not like the repeato of the hill climb, but then what does Sour Mash like besides bourbon and Wake Forest

Good to see Tonka, Froman, Subfloor, and Adobe becoming Parliament regulars

BAM (coming in at Spicoli time) made a rare Parliament posting.  His everpresent MC was welcome. I believe he was the main complainer re my recover/nonrecover after mountain climbers

Ace Ventura (former FNG Michael Hansley) was Wobegon’s EH.  He is involved with a local men’s conference and said he is a serial entrepreneur (why did I just now think of Kellogg) He is a pet store owner with multiple locations.  We bounced a few around including Doolittle, Adrian, and Choke Collar before settling on Ace Ventura.
