Rolling the Dice in Crappy Weather

QIC: Starfish

Date: 2/4/2022

PAX: Chomper, BAM, Burlap, Root Canal (WD), Frostbite (WB), Burns, Lamb Chop, Mutton, Post Hole, Greenspan, Starfish (QIC)

Yesterday afternoon, YHC received a text from @BAM which said “63 and rainy for your UA Q tomorrow.  Yikes.”  YHC had not been paying attention to the weather and therefore @BAM’s note came as a surprise.  Had planned on a kicka$$ playlist to bolster the hype for this morning’s beatdown but decided not to bring electricity into the mix given the forecast.  So we had to just muddle through a cappella (except for the occasional outburst from @RootCanal….)

There was a whole lot of whining upon arrival.  And literal begging, from at least @Burns and maybe more, to head to shelter and dry comfort somewhere.  YHC took the whining and begging under advisement and decided to stick with the plan and test the 3rd core principle, particularly the part about “rain or….”

We did start under the cover of the Bailey Park stage, but didn’t stay there for long…

Mosey to Vine Street side of Bailey Park under the streetlight, for:

The Thang, Part 1:  Streetlights, People….Up and Down the Boulevard…Don’t Stop Believin’

Pax take turns calling two exercises and the rolling the dice.  Pax run clockwise X number of streetlights (where X = the number of the highest rolled die).  Pax perform Y number of reps of first called exercise (where Y = the combined total of both rolled dice).  Pax run counterclockwise Z number of streetlights (where Z = the number of the lowest rolled die).  Pax perform Y number of reps of second called exercise.

And no, @Burns, YHC can’t recall much of the various combinations for the backblast, but he tried.  It did take all 11 rounds for us to circumnavigate the park.

Mosey back under the shelter at the stage, for:

The Thang, Part 2:  Craps, F3 Style

Pax decide whether to bet Pass or Don’t Pass.  One pax is the roller.  If roller rolls a 7 or 11 on the first roll, Pass bettors “win” and hold plank while Don’t Pass bettors perform either 7 or 11 burpees, corresponding to the roll.  If roller rolls a 2, 3 or 12 on the first roll, Don’t Pass bettors “win” and hold plank while Pass bettors perform either 2, 3 or 12 burpees, corresponding to the roll.  If roller rolls a 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10 (aka “the point”), all pax perform corresponding number of reps of exercise called by the roller.  Roller then keeps rolling until he craps out (2, 3 or 12), in which case the Don’t Pass Bettors “win” and hold plank while Pass bettors perform corresponding number of burpees.  If roller rolls a 7 before rolling the point, Pass bettors win.  If roller rolls the point before a 7, Don’t Pass bettors win.  It was a confusing good time.  And everyone won some and lost some.

Truly a pleasure to be back downtown at Urban Assault, which YHC helped found sometime back in 2015 or 2016.  And no one melted.  But almost everyone moaned a lot.

Great to see @PostHole and @Chomper particularly as YHC hadn’t seen either of them in quite a while.

Suttons and Dixons were well represented multi-generationally with Uncle @Mutton and Nephew @LambChop and Father YHC and Son @Frostbite.

@Burlap can probably remember who called what and what we did during Streetlights, People.

@Greenspan kept trying to get people to call Dive Bomber Merkins but then didn’t call them himself.  He also panicked a bit when first given the dice and passed his turn under all of the pressure.

Thanks again for the honor and privilege of leading this morning.  See you soon.

Your friend,

Starfish
