Happy Birthday VI and a Bunch of Others

QIC: Drama Queen

Date: 02/07/2022

PAX: Schneider, The Singing Cowboy, Harden, Sea Man, 60 Minutes, Drama Queen

Last week Starfish informed us of the impending 8th birthday of Village Idiocy, the first WeFoCo (before we had named it WeFoCo) flag planting of the pax of F3 Winston-Salem.  He posted on Slack the pax attending the first VI and expectations were high that some would show.  Alas, it was not to be – not even Starfish who informed us of the birthday.  But 6 had gathered (half of which logged an EC run) and they were there to party.  Some had endured some variation of this workout before – some had not.

YHC dispensed with the principles and mission statement and went straight to work since there was a lot to cover.  Warmorama was the typical standards most of which were IC to 8.  TSC caught on to that part of the theme quickly.  We ended with a shout out to some members of the February birthday club – Abe Lincoln (2/12) and Ric Flair(2/25) – Abe, the only president in the Wrestling HOF and multiple time world champion the Nature Boy.  Of course we did sit out drills.

Moving on with the birthday theme we crossed the Delaware in honor of George Washington(2/22) – mixing up an 8 count (thanks 60 Minutes) of holding boat and 8 toy soldier steps we traversed the parking lot.

Next to the basketball goal to honor the first of several major sport GOATS – Michael Jordan(2/17)  23 jump shots each side and 23 jump squats (neither were guaranteed to increase our basketball abilities).  For those who say Bill Russell (2/12) was a greater champion we moved to the wall for rebound drills.  We did 14 in honor of Bill’s 14 championships (NBA, NCAA, and Olympic) in 17 tries.  Not a bad %.

While at the wall we covered the other 2 presidents born in Feb.  Ronald Reagan (2/6) – 40 Elephant kicks and William Henry Harrison (2/9)  – 31 dead lifts – since he died after only serving 31 days.

On to the diamond to honor Babe Ruth (2/6) and Hank Aaron (2/5).  We did 4 sets of 11 Hammerin Hanks (aka Am Hammers) and 3 laps around the bases for The Babe.  Reps equated to their jersey numbers.

We took the long way around the track to the well lit portion of the field and while the other pax held Friends in Low Places Squat – Garth Brooks (2/7) YHC set up a few cones.  We used those to celebrate the great Jim Brown who retired at age 29 to go make movies.  His most iconic scene was dropping grenades down German vents in The Dirty Dozen only to end up face down.  We ran the cone course down and back twice and at each end we did 8 HR merkins.  Not a coincidence but Jim’s # was 32 (4×8)

With plenty of time left instead of pax choice we knocked out both items left on the list.  We honored a February event – The Battle of Iwo Jima by bear crawling up the hill and at the top perform 25 WWII sit ups.

Finally back for the only other entertainment figure on the list – Clark Gable (2/1) for some Gone With the Wind Sprints – 8 for number of Oscars for GWTW and conveniently 8 for VI.

Back to the shelter for Mary and done.

NMM

Thanks to the pax for putting up with YHC’s oft repeated Feb bd theme.  At least we didn’t celebrate YHC’s with 61 SSHs

YHC believes Harden, 60, and Schneider all put up with this last year too at Mayhem

Harden was the 3rd pax joining traditional Monday EC runners Schneider and TSC

Sea Man and TSC seemed somewhat engaged with my trivia and Q chatter.  Others …meh

Sorry none of the Redwoods from 8 years ago showed

YHC had not checked his notes from previous Feb workouts and Iwo Jima actually lasted several weeks and the famous flag raising occurred on 2/23.  Close.

YHC was disappointed TSC did not know Clark Gable’s most famous movie – guess was Rear Window.  Others did not have a guess – hard to tell if they were tired, tired of me, or just did not know.

Omaha to the shelter was good call as light drizzle had been falling since about 30 min in

YHC’s biggest Q fail by far was the selfie
