The Hills have Ayes

Redline. It seems like a simple concept. Push yourself a little bit to try and improve your performance. Many of the Redline workouts YHC has attended have been largely done on the track. YHC gets crushed during these workouts and is often passed by everyone else multiple times when the distance exceeds 1/2 a lap. So, how would YHC be able to push the Pax to their Redline while keeping them in sight? The idea of trying some hill work and a brief tour of the surrounding terrain was born. A slack notice was sent out promising a Manly View of Forsyth Intimidation. This was a nod to the hills we would be facing for the work.

Tigger had fallen into the trap of commenting on a post and the next thing you know we are doing some rope work before the workout. Tigger has been great getting YHC out for 15 minutes of jump rope before workouts and it was great of him to set up the rope workout and bring music today.

As we jumped, cars pulled in and no one got out until the ropes stopped flying. Next time you all should join in. It was a great warmup especially for a running workout. We were getting ready to launch when 2 figures ran in and joined the group.

Off we went on a little warm up jog. Palin took off leading the way so YHC tried to keep up. We were heading in the direction of one of the hills on the list so YHC just went with it. The rule of the day was that when you got to the stopping point on a run section, if there was anyone still running up the incline you go back and ran up with them. If the Pax didn’t want to do that then they could do burpees while they wait. Surprisingly, no one did burpees.

At Forsyth St we did three trips running up and walking back down the incline twice, then on the last one we jogged over to the base of the Intimidator.

On the Intimidator, we started with one run up to the first intersection (except for Palin – he got to go to the second intersection) and then a walk back down and then a trip up to the second intersection and then there was a run down the slope. We then made our way over to Pilot View.

Pilot View has the gradual rise up to the first intersection that we did a run up and walk down and then a run up to the second intersection and walk back down to the first intersection then a run to the top and back down to the second intersection and another run up to the top. Then we moseyed over to Manly.

Manly St was named after Resistor (according to local lore) so we started with a run down Manly, Then we did a couple of run ups and then made our way over to Brookstown.

Brookstown took us back down to the park and to the launch site. Done in 47 min (I’ll do 2 minutes less next time), 3.75 miles, 860 ft of climbing and 850 ft of descent.

NMM:

This was YHC’s first non Ruck Q this year and only the second workout Q in over a year so it was thought that a running Q would be the best way to get back on track (without getting on the track). YHC reached out to Resistor and volunteered for today’s Q, as a way to kick me into doing something.

Please reach out to the Site Qs and get on the calendar (which is not something I usually do) at all of the AOs. We are all better when we are pushed and pulled by each other and one of the best ways to accomplish that is to Q. Several of the Pax have taken it upon themselves to try and Q at every workout in a fixed period of time. That is a great challenge and fits in nicely with the previous AO Challenge where Pax were encouraged to try and post at all of the different AOs and not just the same ones week after week. It is a great way to meet new people and do somethings you may not normally do.

It was great to have the extra time with Tigger this morning for the rope work. He is a beast and was a great sport in coming out for a running workout this morning when he repeatedly claims he doesn’t run. He has made that claim several times after beating YHC on hill runs at BnW. He did awesome this morning and you all should take him up on the opportunity to jump rope with him before a workout.

This was the first time YHC had worked out with Webelo, Suede or Bed Bug.

Suede is in training for some run next month that he and Wink were casually discussing as they flew up one of the hills past the Redlined Q.

Bed Bug was really moving this morning and kept circling back for the 6.

Webelo said that this was his 3rd  F3 post and you can tell that he was named appropriately, he was prepared and didn’t even look winded today.

Resistor was doing his normal work of making the runs look easy and earned the title Respect today as always.

Balco and Total Recall RIRO and I don’t think that they broke a sweat during the entire event this morning.  The only time I think that their or Wink’s heart rate went up was when the talk turned to Bitcoin and crypto currency and other investing tips that YHC could not catch as they were effortlessly gliding past me on the hills.

The workout was not nearly enough of a challenge for Palin. He did extra work and was still out front and asking for more. He will surely breeze through his run this weekend.

COT: Prayers for everyone out there battling cancer and any other health troubles. Also, remember those that are struggling with spoken and unspoken requests.

YHC took us out giving thanks for the opportunity and ability to be out with each other this morning in our constant quest to be the best men that we can be for ourselves and for our families and communities.

It was great to be out this morning and to push myself much harder than if this were a Sad Clown event. Thanks to the Pax who came out this morning and put up with the seemingly unscripted and ill conceived plan and made it a very enjoyable morning.

Hills suck but if you are going to get up at this ungodly hour you might as well do something ungodly. Toe Tag reached out to Q a while back out the blue. Great to have home there and to catch up a bit. Also outstanding to read this old fashion classic backblast! Humor and wisdom all wrapped up into one backblast ! Thank you !
