February Birthdays … I Got A Million of Em

PAX: Harden, Sour Mash, 60 Minutes, Schneider, Boomerang, Van Gogh, Zima, Huckleberry, Crash, Splash, Work Bench, High Cotton, Little Piggy, Tweety Bird, Mongoose, DQ

YHC has offered up some version of this workout in Februarys past.  It is quite fascinating to me (of course I’m biased since I also have one) of all the famous people – some of whom are GOATS in their field of endeavor- who have birthdays in the shortest month of the year. A theme was teased at a couple of previous workouts, there were marketing photos on Slack, it was possibly the last morning this week for decent weather for a workout – whatever the reason 15 other pax rolled into Jamison Park eager to find out what awaited.

The tension could be cut with a dull knife.  As Harden joined us but before 60 Minutes arrived, we began with a somewhat botched mission statement.  I promise I was not looking at Zima when I said “small men.”

With the hint of the theme we began with 30 SSHs – after finishing YHC promised 30 more at the end because this was YHC’s last Mayhem as a single Respect.  Other Warmorama standards were performed – finishing up with a further revelation of the theme of February birthdays.  To honor Abraham Lincoln (2/12)- the only president in the Wrestling Hall of Fame and Ric Flair (2/25) we did the old sit out drill – AKA Dry Dock Crabs  – there was noticeable improvement by many but also many groans and we ended rather abruptly.

We then moseyed over to the wall area of the Elementary School.  We found some cones there and honored our 1st President – whose birthday we officially celebrated earlier this week not the generic Presidents Day – George Washington (2/22).  Exercise chosen was a throw back to his General Washington days and we “crossed the Delaware” with 10 Toy soldier steps alternating with 10 count Boat until we reached the far pylon.

Next came 2 GOATs who share today as their birthday – Michael Jordan and Jim Brown.  For MJ, we took 23 jump shots each side and 23 dunking jump squats.  Although no pax actually dunked. JB was honored with a run through the pylon course (much like he did in The Dirty Dozen) but since Jim didn’t make it out of that standing up we finished each turn with 8 HR Merkins.  8 x 4 = 32  –  Jim’s FB #.

After a quick and not very accurate rearranging of the pylons, we honored Babe Ruth (2/6) and Hank Aaron (2/5).  With 1469 HRs between them the pax was fearful of the reps but we again got to their jersey #s.  44 total American Hammers and 3 laps around the bases. Some got in an extra 11 AHs.

We still had a couple of presidents to cover.  One fairly famous, one not so much.  For Ronald Reagan (2/6) we did 40 elephant kicks while we requested  “Mr. Gorbachev, knock down this wall”.  Little known except for his death after 30 days in office, we honored William Henry Harrison (2/9) with 30 dead lifts.

With a little time left, we moseyed back to launch and the pax had a choice of either another person  with a Feb bd or a famous February event (they were warned they wouldn’t be fond of either choice)  The pax voted for a person and it was Clark Gable (2/1) whose most famous movie was Gone With The Wind …Sprint.  GWTW won 8 Oscars (also usually awarded in Feb) So it was 4 times down and back.  Nothing like sprints to get the heart rate up.

We still had time to get in the additional 30 SSHs and a few various Mary exercises.

Lots of MC regarding my logic of reps, is this really the distance across the Delaware, have you ever played baseball, who is WH Harrison, etc.  Most was ignored.  YHC is old and can’t hear and/or is set in his ways.

The town council of WeFoCo was in the house.  Don’t know if they coordinated for my Q but it was noticed and appreciated.

Good to see some of the newer pax out – strong work

Mongoose voted for event instead of person because he doesn’t like people

The event choice was Battle of Iwo Jima (2/23) which would have required climbing the road to nowhere with WWII sit ups at the top – we got the WWIIs in during Mary

Zima was still nursing knee but toughed out 8 sprints

Good mix of young/old and fast/slow pax today – no one was left behind and all got better
