Grinding Past Self-Imposed Limits at Charlie Foxtrot

QIC: Burlap

Date: 18 May 2019

PAX: Ink Spot (WD), Starfish, Frostbite, Drama Queen, Drano, Quiver, Blue Light Special, 60 Minutes. Fingers, Parkay (WB), Burlap

When YHC agreed to Q at F3WS’ westernmost workout on Saturdays, I didn’t know that (a) the site Q would be out of town, (b) there would be an ice cream festival on site later that morning, and (c) @CherryPie would arrange a convergence and use Twitter to cajole, inspire, argue, and otherwise convince as many Pax as possible to join him at the wonderful Samaritan Ministries at the same time as #CharlieFoxtrot.

So, YHC did a lot a planning — even more than normal for one of my Qs.  YHC had a general plan for a workout on the field behind the ballcourt and playground at Morgan Elem.  He then had an alternate site near the Novant Clemmons Med. Ctr. parking lot just in case the ice cream trucks got there early.  And due to @Cherry Pie’s relentless marketing efforts toward a worthy cause, YHC made contingency plans to accommodate a very few number of Pax.  In fact, due to the complexity of my general plan, YHC made specific, unique plans for a different workout for every number of Pax that may show from 2 to 13.  Well, since my 2.0, @Parkay, came along, if the number was 2, YHC would have probably punted at about 0708 and driven to downtown (or Biscuitville).  But YHC was well prepared for three or more.

After performing an in-car reconnaissance of the AO and alternate site, YHC and @Parkay pulled into the lot about 0652 and saw 2-3 cars already there including two in the silver Audi alone.  Well, the five pax grew to 9 at 0659, and we still expected @BLS due to his HC with @Starfish.  @BLS pulled in at 0700, and YHC was prepared for his TEN plan which was three groups of three-man grinders with one extra person running at all times.  When @InkSpot arrived at 0702, we hit @RootCanal’s favorite number — 11.  So, YHC was set.  We finished warmorama and headed for the field.  Here is the entire set of exercises below.  More narrative and color in the Naked Man Moleskin.

Run to field

ELEVEN: three groups of three-man grinders plus two runners; all three groups perform one exercise at one side of field and the other at the far side, with an alternating runner between the two relieving the exerciser each time.  Do these until the extra two runners return from running out bus driveway to Harper Rd and right to and around traffic circle and back.  Six rounds included all eleven pax running to the circle, with @Drano running twice:

Merkins – WWIIs
Squats – CDDs
RTs – Alternating lunges
Makhtar N’Diayes – low flutters
Prisoner get-ups – Nolan Ryans
Freddie Mercs – Side squats

While still on field, perform Carolina — no make that Cackalacky Choo-Choo.  Then line up in plank head to two for a peloton bear crawl (no merkins necessary when the Pax passes by).

Run over to a shady wall at school and line up — wall sit with person at end of line doing 5 Mike Tysons, then the next person, and so on until all have performed the Mike Tysons.  Always stay in wall sit position unless it’s your turn to do Iron Mike.

Mosey back to start/finish lot for Mary: Mutton Crunch/H2Heaven/Big O/Rosalita/Glute Bridge/Hallelujah low flutters.

COT

  • @Blue Light Special continues to announce pro-Liverpool and anti-ManCity games in an effort to brainwash F3WS fans into becoming Liverpool fans.
  • @Starfish invited pax to try #DashPaxRucking tomorrow at 0645 at a location TBD (since then, we know it starts and ends at Sherwood Pool on Fernmach).
  • @60 Minutes announced that it is Armed Forces Day, so we included thanksgiving for those men and women serving us.
  • Pray for @Starfish’s Mother (and Father) as she heals and he takes care of her.
  • YHC took us out.

NMM

  • @Quiver rode his bike and in and out.  He only lives three miles away but made it nine miles to get extra mileage in.  Not sure what he did on the way back, but T-Claps to him.
  • @Frostbite did not need gloves on this warm spring morning.  YHC asked him if he was graduating or was he a junior.  He started to say “junior” but corrected himself and noted that he has finished spring semester classes and is now a Senior!  He and YHC had a moment to discuss ACC baseball.  @Frostbite is an insider, so we can’t reveal the details.
  • @InkSpot came in late, as he had not been to #CF, and the parking lot we use didn’t necessarily match the address — it’s not really at Morgan Elem nor at Novant.  But he put in at least one hour of work into his 57 minutes.  YHC has yet to wear @InkSpot down.
  • @Fingers treated us to his impression of Mike Tyson during the portion of the workout bearing his name.
  • @BlueLightSpecial and YHC constituted the first pair of distance runners, and BLS admitted to being out of breath but noted that he would get stronger as the workout went along.  Indeed, we were working together on the grinder about 30 minutes later and he showed up quite early to relieve YHC because he was running hard across the field.
  • YHC has known @Drano for a few years but hadn’t had the pleasure of being at the same workout with him in while.  So when YHC was using him as an example today, I couldn’t think of his F3 name and called him “Holland”.  A sign that (1) YHC had communicated with him only via Twitter lately and (2) YHC is old.
  • @DramaQueen is celebrating his M’s birthday today.  I called her Mrs. Queen.  YHC was embarrassed at #Coffeteria when I showed up in the same DashStrong BRR shirt that @DQ was wearing.
  • @60 Minutes had an apparently traumatic episode with scissors as a child — consequently, his mind will not let his body execute “Running with Scissors”.
  • @Starfish is ever observant during workouts.  When YHC called “The Big O” and instructed the Pax to reverse directions with every new circumference, @Starfish was wondering if YHC would stop on an even number.  When YHC ploughed through 10, his antennae were up — do Starfish have antennae? — and when we halted on 14 rather than 15, @Starfish commented on the appropriate symmetry.
  • @Parkay did not send his usual zingers directed at his old and beleaguered father.  Maybe the change of AO affected his wit OR softened his heart to his dear father.  (@Parkay just read that sentence and said, “No, it’s just coincidence.”)
  • I hadn’t done Makhtar N’Diayes in a long time.  Not sure that I missed them.  Same for Prisoner Get-ups.
  • On the Choo-Choo, some Pax opted for safety vs. jumping over their brothers legs.  Thank you.
  • @Drano can fly doing Bear Crawls and appropriately used the left or passing lane.
  • PAX didn’t really complain, but did note in an oral manner the significant amount of running between the grinder, the run to the circle, and the run to and from the starting point.  YHC thinks he heard @Starfish say we broke two miles.  Apparently, I have to send myself a terse, sternly worded e-mail about adhering to the stated purpose and intent of each AO and workout.
  • We used less than a page of YHC’s three-page weinke.  I really did plan a unique workout for pax of 2 to 13.
  • 9 of 11 Pax attended #Coffeteria at Biscuitville.

An honor to lead.  Thanks to @Harden for the opportunity.

Peace,

Burlap

Well done, Burlap! Way to be ahead of the game and plan for every possible scenario. Curious – did any of this really happen or did yall hang at the Ice cream trucks the entire time? Thanks for leading the pax. Despite the hard work put in by #CherryPie you were able to bring out a large crowd to #CharlieFoxTrot. Maybe my absence is all it takes.
