Suck it up, Boys

QIC: Burlap

Date: 06 March 2019

PAX: Thistle (WD), Root Canal, Quiver, Post Hole (WB?), Offsides, Spamalot, Splash, Pony Express, Mongoose, Zima, Drip, Burlap

27 degrees at post, with occasional wind.

Zima in shorts BUT he was wearing two shirts, at least one of which was long-sleeved.  He ran in with the shovel flag.  (Excellent site Q.)

Mongoose responded cheerfully to YHC’s request to bring small orange cones and laid them on the hood of my car without a word at 0528.

One half of the best GAS Group in F3WS was in attendance; however, the member living closest was not.  (Hope your son is feeling better, RedEye.)

Here is what we did with alacrity:

SSH; Squats; Running with scissors; Mountain climbers hold it for Plankjacks; ISTs; Toy Soldiers all IC x 20

Run down to field to end line on right; put out cones.  Bear crawl 10 yards with one merkin, to 20 yards with 2, etc. up to 50 yard line and five merkins.

To benches for multiplier: monkey humpers, Russian Twists (count only right side), squats, and decline merkins and rotate through benches 10 – then 20, 30, 40.

Repeat bear crawl with 2-4-6-8-10 merkins.

Back to near bench for Lazy Q – take turns with pax giving an exercise for rest of pax while he runs up hill and touches tree and back.  Exercises included alternating lunges (Root Canal), OH Claps a.k.a Burpees if your name is Zima (Mongoose), hand release merkins (I can’t recall the jerk that called this), and heels to heaven (also cannot recall this kind person).

Repeat bear crawl with 3-6-9-12-15 merkins (#crowdpleaser).

Return to parking lot for Mary: LBCs, Rosalitas, Mutton Crunches, Freddie Mercuries, hold feet 6 inches above ground with straight legs for 30 seconds.

FIN

COT — Splash has Q at Purgatory.  He mentioned the theme, but YHC promised not to publish in this BB so a few folks may show up there Saturday.  Prayers for Offsides’ daughter with ankle injury.  May face surgery, but in any case, difficult to play soccer with her friends on bad ankle now.  YHC took us out and included prayers for Boo Boo’s BIL and any of us struggling with addictions.

NMM

  • Crowd was out of their cars to join Zima by 0525 — impressive in the cold.
  • Q tried to keep/get the pax warm with mostly cardio warm-ups and quick pace.  Did first seven exercises in five minutes.
  • Q announced a mosey to the field and was met with some measure of incredulity.  Also, questions were posed as to the appropriateness of the field conditions, the lack of lighting on the run down, and whether Q had bothered to check on the field conditions.  Q ignored all these.
  • The Pax enjoyed the 30-second rest while Q spread out cones.
  • Q was the 6 on the first bear crawl with merkins, but did all without hitting a knee.
  • Q stayed in back of the pack for the multiplier, so didn’t hear any complaining about the 40 monkey humpers or 40 derkins, for example.
  • Pax enjoyed MC during the Lazy Q portion and directed it to any other pax, not just the Q.  Runners enjoyed the tundra-like conditions including the frozen puddles on the run.  Pax complained about the lack of speed of the runners multiple times. These complainers’ names may rhyme with Pond Moose and F.E.M.A.
  • Saved enough time for round 3 of the bear crawl with merkins in multiples of 3.  This was a crowdpleaser, but the pax did indeed suck it up and tackled this task.  YHC finally hit a knee about half way through this one, but was not alone.
  • Run to the parking lot was a good bit slower than the run from the parking lot (which was not very fast anyway).
  • Pax (Zima, I think) was kind enough to inquire about YHC’s possession of a watch at the moment that YHC counted up to 30 in his head and called, “Recover”.
  • Overall we did 90 merkins plus what ever amount of hand release merkins during Lazy Q, 100 derkins, 100 monkey humpers, 100 Russian Twists, 140 squats including warmorama, and 150 years of bear crawl.  Probably got in about 1.5 miles of movement.

I enjoyed this non-themed, old school, boot camp.  I hope you did, too.  Thanks to Mongoose for the cones and to Zima for the keys.

An honor to lead,

Burlap

Despite the frozen conditions, YHC was still covered in mud by the end. So there’s that…
