It’s Raining in Omaha

PAX – Thistle, Cheesesteak, Root Canal, Spicoli, Ziggy Stardust, Benjamin Button, Undertow, Lamb Chop, Greenspan, Drama Queen

Impossible Situation was living up to it’s name Sat morning around 6 AM when I was getting dressed.  Another wet and nasty day appeared to be our fate.  YHC decided to head on down and scout cover for what was sure to be a small number of Pax.  After a short recon that located covered walkways and the tunnel and rain plan was hatched – kinda and the original plan that really didn’t have a ton of detail was scrapped.

YHC was pleasantly surprised as headlights kept coming into the newly designed parking lot of the Mothership.  As the watch struck 0700 a grand total of 8 were there to begin a day in the wetness.  The disclaimer given was much like the one for the log ride at Carowinds – you will get wet, you may get soaked.  No one returned to their cars.  Success #1.

We moseyed to the shelter near the track and proceeded to do a short Warmorama – Q should have lengthened this for a couple of reasons. 1. The plan was as fluid as the standing water on the track and 2. Two pax (Root Canal and of course Spicoli)  found us a little later after we had left the cover of this shelter.

We moseyed up the hill to the covered walkway and performed a three man grinder after Q failed at both math and explaining details very well.  Pax were very adaptable and smart and made it work.  Rotations at the end points consisted of merkins/LBCs at the top of the tunnel hill and squats and lunges near the pullup bars.

After 3 or so rounds were completed the rain had slacked enough to go out in the open.  We proceeded to the track where we performed a reverse pelaton with various modes of transport including bear crawls, frog jumps, lunge walks, alligator crawls, Apollo Creeds, Cariocas, backward and maybe a few others.  Man in rear ran to front as rest of pax performed transport exercises.  We got in a half mile of this foolishness.

At this point time was moving slowly and Q was on the fly so an old standard was called upon.  Around the track again – 4 corners with wrestling drills for exercises.  Those consisted of reverse lunge (defend the single leg). Stand up from ref position. Sit out drill aka the ever popular dry dock crab.  And finally a real crowd pleaser on the cold wet track – shoulder bridges.

We then moseyed up the steps facing The Intimidator and gathered round a huge mud pit – cue the mud wrestling jokes.  We grabbed spots on the wall and performed step ups, derkins, wall sits with Jack Reachers and wall sits with Wonderbras. Cue the stories of pax who knew Sara Lee employees that chose the Wonderbra models.  Why do you ever give up that job?

We moseyed back to the parking lot with just enough time for a round of Sumo Drill – some of the newer pax didn’t see that one coming.  Thistle drew YHC and he was a worthy opponent.

Lastly Q called a few Mary exercises that attempted to keep us somewhat dry – of course it was a little late for that.  0800 and we’re done.

NMM

Impressive turnout for such a nasty morning.  YHC rarely attends IS but always enjoys trips to the expansive AO that is The Mothership.  However, the construction and the weather made navigation a challenge.

All got after it and quickly adapted to Qs multiple Omahas.  The always pleasant duo of Thistle and Root Canal, kept the MC going.

The wrestling drills seemed to bring back some memories for Cheesteak, Spicoli and Root Canal – maybe some others.

Good to meet Benjamin Button. A few other pax that YHC rarely works out with were welcome additions to this fine group.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The two main announcements from the morning have already happened – Christmas Party and Wobegone’s Run benefitting Piedmont Land Conservancy.  Tclaps to all who attended one or both.

COT

YHC lifted up Bill a friend from church recently diagnosed with ALS.  We also lifted up those who battle addiction and depression especially at the holiday season.

Always and honor – DQ
