February GOATs at UA

QIC: Drama Queen

Date: 02/23/2018

PAX: Boomerang, Panhandler, Wobegon, Thistle, Root Canal, The Carpenter (Richmond VA), Lemming, Sleeper, TPS, Hedwig, Cher (Scranton, PA) Burns, Tonka, Gelding, Gepetto, Jiminy, Home Invader (FNG), Light Brigade, Cheese Steak, Pita, Snooki, DQ

Temperature was near perfect and Spring was in the air.  The pax came from all directions like moths to a flame for some fun at this morning’s Urban Assault.  YHC had a plan but as the numbers kept growing Omahas bounced around in my as of this week somewhat older brain.  The pax were due their money’s worth so we began promptly at 0530 with a disclaimer since we had an FNG in our midst along with visitors from other regions and several pax YHC did not know.

A February theme was to be the plan of the day – celebrating February’s holidays, events and famous birthdays.  We began with 2 Groundhog Day burpees that YHC totally forgot to repeat intermittently throughout the workout – first plan fail.  Rest of Warmorama was pretty standard stuff finishing off with DQ special – Dry Dock crabs.  Some are starting to catch on.

Then we proceeded to top of parking lot where we celebrated George Washington (2/22) by “crossing the Delaware”  10 toy soldier marches mixed with 10 count of Boat until we made out way to the other side of lot.  From there it was off to the rock pile south of 1st St where we celebrated greatest of all time baseball players born in Feb. both Hank Aaron (2/5) and Babe Ruth (2/6).  3 sets of 15 IC of overhead presses for the Babe – like you’re celebrating a home run and 3 sets of 15 IC of Hammer curls for Hammerin Hank.

After putting rocks back we celebrated perhaps the GOAT of the GOATs Michael Jordan (2/17).  We did 23 jump shots right side and left side and 23 jump squats.  Done with basketball we moseyed back up to First St where we found some convenient cones.  So to celebrate football’s greatest – Jim Brown (also 2/17)-  instead of football we reenacted Jim’s final scene in The Dirty Dozen and zig zagged between 4 quickly arranged cones while completing 4 sets of 8 merkins at each turn. 32 in total for his jersey #.

On to the bottom of the hill at Merschel Plaza where we celebrated the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima – 73 years ago today.  Partner up – one runs to top of hill while other does WWII situps and then flap jack.  One round and we’re done because clock was ticking.

A quick set of Monkey Humpers in honor of Charles Darwin (2/12) and then a Gone With The Wind Sprint for Clark Gable (2/1) back to the parking lot.

We gathered at the wall to celebrate two of our other presidents born in Feb.  For Ronald Reagan (2/6) 40 total elephant kicks on the wall with a 30 second break in between for William Henry Harrison (2/9)- because that’s about how long he served.

We had yet to cover Abe Lincoln (2/12) and Ric Flair (2/25) – both renowned wrestlers – so of course 30 seconds of Sumo Drill.

A couple of Mary exercises – LBCs and Snow Angels and we’re done.

Incredible # and mix of pax today.  Respects to Hate hates and fasties to not so fasties.  Been a while since YHC has posted at UA and did not know many of the faces.  Cobains on getting some who live here confused with visitors.

Re visitors – think this is right – we had The Carpenter from Richmond VA and Cher from Scranton, PA.  Got a little bit of The Carpenter’s story but missed getting to talk to Cher.  Great to have you and come back anytime.

Welcome Home Invader (fka Harold Galvez (sp?) brought today by Light Brigade.  He was travelling from The ATL and stopped in for a visit.  Apparently Light Brigade had skipped locations like the Baltimore Colts and Home Invader opened the door at LB’s former residence to find a new family there.  Good story = good name.

Gepetto can quote the mission statement. Tclaps

Some overachieved on their rock selection.  Hope lots of arm movement was not required later in the day.

Speaking of the rock pile – some seemed surprised to see such a large one so close in the urb.  YHC had located and used it on a Flatline Q last fall.  It’s a good one.

In case names don’t show at the top :  Boomerang, Panhandler, Wobegon, Thistle, Root Canal, The Carpenter, Lemming, Sleeper, TPS, Hedwig, Cher, Burns, Tonka, Gelding, Gepetto, Jiminy, Home Invader, Light Brigade, Cheese Steak, Pita, Snooki, DQ
