Are you ready for some (old man) football??

Wildcard weekend!  Usually great games to watch, and since I’ve been here in Dash-Strong I can’t ever remember seeing a time where everyone just balled out during a workout.  I’m likely wrong, but with me getting back after it my old @$$ is super sore from the week.  So it’s time for….active recovery.  Let’s play ball!

Most were in a circle next to the church trying to hide from the wind.  I thought I was wimpy waiting until 5 till in my heated car.  We’re all equally wormy.  Some had murphed, good stuff!  I met Peanuts (real name Charlie Brown), and seeing as how he murphed for his first workout that’s damn strong.  I turned on the speaker which had old school NFL Films music.  Let’s start:

Warmup:  my usual, SSH, Arm Circles, Chainbreakers, Swimmers, Whirly’s, Quickmills, Lunge with a twist.

The Thang:  I had planned on jogging over to the West Forsyth High School field first thing s yesterday I had reconnoitered and found a break in the fence!  Alas, Bullwinkle said he was leaving at 7:30.  I had to rope him into the fun, so let’s just set up shop right beside the church.  I omaha’d to just a brief amount of exercises.

Cones runs – set them about 30 yards apart, get in your stance and sprint.  Then we do group squats.  Repeat.  Then we do butt kickers.  Repeat.  Then we do Merkins.  Repeat.  Then we do high knees.  Repeat.

GAME TIME! – I said we’d start with regular football rules, you have 4 downs to make it 30+yards.  I chose Madoff as a captain (he let me Q Distillery, he’s a captain), and we chose the teams.  He chose Cruiser first I think, I went Peanuts.  Then the order scrags up, but I was going for height and he was going for speed.  He took Bullwinkle from me so Team Tall vs. Team Small didn’t quite happen.  One other rule – if you get scored on, you do 5 burpees.

What happened next is a bit of a blur.  I can’t remember the score or anything really……honest, total blank 🙂  I do remember two parts:  Swifty jumped up for an interception and he fell on his arse then back….on asphalt.  I got a little scared but he got right up.  The other thing I remember is that Peanuts had been apologizing all game for throws and missed catches, but as soon as we told him to just play and enjoy, then the guy outruns everyone for a 30 yard bomb completion touchdown.  He spiked it hard!  Wait, I also remember Adobe and Cruiser had a connection, being neighbors who ball on their kids will do that.  They were simpatico.

Time to change the game:  Ulitmate Frisbee Rules.  Bullwinkle left, so one man has to sit out and do SSH until a score comes up.  This was fun, I wish I’d brought a frisbee.  We’ll sneak onto the field in the spring when we have lots of people.  Anyways, we all rotated in and had fun with 3 v 3.

Merkin quota:  it was about 15 till and they wanted to get their merkins in for the month.  Fine by me, so we got under the portico and just rocked those.  Once Cruiser hit 300 for the day it was right on time for Mary, so we all did an exercise each, and held the last 60 seconds together in plank.  Time.

Name O Rama – next time Cruiser tries to correct me while I’m Q’ing I’ma slap him.  If you are the Q, you make the rules.  Mine goes:  Announcements, Prayers, Name O Rama, Circle of Trust.  Don’t screw with me…

Announcements:

  • Greenest NEXT weekend with 60 Minutes.  Holler at him to help.

Prayers:

  • Continued prayers for Franks&Beans family health diagnosis and being in limbo.  PRAY.
  • Ziffel asked to pray for world peace.  Not a bad idea.  PRAY

MOLESKIN:  getting old sucks because you get more sore than you used to.  Sometimes you just need to grab a ball and have a good time.  I was breathing heavy during the games so I consider that mission accomplished regarding fitness.  Maybe next time we can do it on a semi-dry field.  And next time it’s rugby!  Y’all enjoy a football weekend!
