The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald

QIC: Crash

Date: 3/12/2022

PAX: Dr. Toot, Subfloor, Drama Queen, Cruiser, Adobe, Crash

Rain was threatening and snow. Today’s theme was Beta, but the theme went the way of the cardboard and the plan. The gales of November came early.

YHC abandoned cardboard for another day, hastily programmed the Seconds app for 45 seconds of exercises followed by 30 seconds of rest for close to an hour.

6 brave pax assembled under the overhang on the side of the church and tried to stay warm.

Cue the music, high fidelity.

Warmup

SSH, IST, Hillbilly, F AST, B AST, Burpees, Abe Vigoda, Whirly w/Clap, about 11 of each.

The thing

Go get rocks, bring back. Go around circle calling 11 of each, PAX choice rock exercises, learned a few new ones (something about a bra?) and varied according to pax preference. A few repeat curls. A bit of everything else. 3 times around so 18 rounds, 198 reps.

Start the Tabata timer,  did these

Diamond Merkins, OH Press, Shoulder Tap, Dips, Monkey Humper, Mtn Climber, Skull Crushers, American Hammer, Incline Press, Squat, Plank Jack, Upright Row, LBC, Merkin
FW Lunge, Curls, Banana / Superman, Freddie Mercury, Carolina DD, Heels 2 Heaven, Bird Dog Alternating, J Lo

After a few rounds we sought a less windy spot at the left front corner. There’s lots of nice spots to get out of the weather at Alcatraz.

Threw in a few rounds of Burpees, a round of Tie fighters for Adobe, a round of crab / CDD for drama queen, a couple laps around the parking lot, larger one and smaller one. Then, to

Mary

Did another round of called exercises, they are escaping me. Your standard mary ending with ring of fire 3,2,1.

COT

Convergence April 2.

Prayers for Ukraine and all pax selves or family with health issues and for peace.

NMM

A lot of good moments and second F. Still YHC gets anxiety that meets the definition of anxiety, no idea where it comes from though there was a plan and a backup plan. This is the 3rd Q this year and somehow have drawn the 3 worst days of weather of the year, but the PAX always show up.

Really enjoyed the pre run (formerly known as a murph) with Dr Toot. We did about 3.5 miles, slogged for a set of pullups then thought better of spending time there in standing water, wrapped up with some merkins and squats and a few ww2’s.

Drama Queen taught us a couple new exercises.

Cruiser was killing it.

A few good laughs with Subfloor and Adobe and everyone else. YHC had programmed the Tabata timer to say ‘Relax’ leading into the 30 seconds between rounds (I think this started at Mayhem? High Cotton?) and also ‘halfway there’ or something like that halfway into the 45 seconds of each round. This led to some funny mumble chatter.

Everyone’s favorite 6 and a half minutes was definitely when Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’ played as we started 45 seconds of Merkins. This drew groans of disapproval from some of the PAX who thought we’d be listening to it for the rest of the workout. YHC offered to modify the format to do each exercise starting with merkins for the entirety of each song but was rebuffed. At this point it was 1.5 min in and only 5 min left. I admit that 5 minutes felt more like 10 or 15…

Well, despite this there were some early and continuing compliments for this playlist which will make a comeback maybe without the Edmund Fitzgerald but with the original theme.

Really enjoyed this one, thanks for coming out gentlemen.
