Gettin’ Real Friendly with Blocks

QIC: Turnover

Date: 8.19.2021

PAX: Crash (WD) , Schneider , Harden , 60 Minutes , Turnover (WB , Q)

It had been a while since YHC had Q’d out at The Distillery, but I was pumped to get back out there. YHC has always said, and continues to say, that this AO is criminally underrated and under-visited. As it had been a while since my last Distillery post, I was not sure what the cinder block situation was leading up to the day of my Q. It was my understanding that there had been some…~cough~ turnover ~cough~ with the cinder block inventory in the past. However, the site Q assured me that there would be plenty to go around. He did not disappoint.

YHC came barreling into the parking lot, drifting like Paul Walker (RIP) at 0529 (big shout out to YHC’s M who woke me up at 5am and said “arent you Q’ing today?”…had this not happened, I def would have missed this Q) and we were off and running.

PAX were instructed to grab a cinder block. That would be there block and close, personal friend for the remainder of the beatdown. The idea was that the PAX should maintain contact with their block at all times. (Originally my plan was to have the pax not put the block down on the ground for the entirety, but this went out the window pretty quickly)

From launch, we John Cusack’d over to the far end of the parking lot to the basketball goal for Station 1:

5 curls, 5 curl and press, 5 curl, press, squat

Repeato

Once we got through those 2 sets, we were on our way to Station 2 which was under the drive thru awning at the church.

Our mode of transportation was Lunge Walk. Unrelated: someone should shorten that parking lot, for real.

After our longer-than-I-anticipated lunge walk across the parking lot, we circled up under the awning for Station 2

With your block on the ground, 10 merkins, 10 “jump feet to hands/block”, (pick block up) 10 squats with the block, 10 OH Press.

We then went and did a round of 9 reps each, 8 reps each and so on all the way to 1. This was a #crowdpleaser.

After everyone was finished with that circuit, we John Cusack’d over to the Stadium Dr entrance to the church for Station 3:

20 KB Swings, 20 Reverse Lunges (10 each leg), 20 chest press (emphasis was on performing rep as fast as possible while maintaining control of the weight/block)

Repeato

John Cusack to the shelter for Station 4

10 Jump-Over-Block burpees, 10 squat thrusters, 10 Man Maker Burpees

Running out of time so we return our blocks to their super secretive location for future use and regroup at the shelter for CoT

Word on the street is that the Mayhem Site Q is looking for someone to take over the reigns of that prestigious AO.

Prayers for Haywood county, Afghanistan, and YHC’s coworker

YHC took us out thanking Him for blessing us far beyond anything we deserve.

TClaps to Harden who RIRO’d for the beatdown. Strong work man.

As I mentioned, I communicated to the PAX that the idea was to either not put your block down for the entirety of the beatdown (unless called for) or to always maintain contact with your block for the entirety. Schneider made it clear very early on that he was not interested in any such shenanigans and put his block down whenever he pleased. He did make up for it by absolutely blazing through every called exercise with ease. I’d say that’s a fair trade.

60 Minutes was trying to throw YHC off my Q game early on by asking if I was prepared for the F3 Golf outing on Sunday, to which I replied something like “umm, no. lolz” Having 3 kids doesn’t do much for a man’s golf game, I’m here to tell you. However, let the record show that YHC did put up a respectable score on Sunday whilst helping lead the East Team to victory over the West Team.

It has been awesome to see how far Crash has come since he’s started posting regularly. Keep in mind this is a dude who had heart surgery not that long ago.  He has several Drip-like qualities in that he never complains, is always a beasting through reps, and is frequently smiling…except with Crash you know it’s genuine, whereas Drip’s pleasantness can be downright condescending most times.

It was cool having the entire group stay together for the entire beatdown. Led to some great MC and fellowship. Everyone put in some serious work and I really appreciated the push.

Thanks for the keys, 60. I’ll just give them back to you tomorrow after you’re done with Q’ing at Mayhem.
