Theme Music – Every Good Hero Should Have Some

QIC: Toe Tag

Date: 12/23/2020

PAX: Manscape (WD), The Singing Cowboy, Winklevoss, Interference, Balco, Bluto, Closer, Airbag, Atrophy, Tigger (WB), Atrophy, Zuckerburg, Bueller, Cobra, Organ Grinder

The Singing Cowboy has been checking in with YHC regularly throughout the year and offering encouragement and support.  He seemed to know when to send a text or message inviting YHC to post and sending well wishes and hopes for safety and sanity in this crazy year.  It has been very easy for YHC to avoid posting most of the year.  Rehab from injuries took up a big chunk of the year and then the pandemic sort of took hold and YHC started seeing more sick people at work and didn’t want to spread anything.  Plus, just the extra fatigue all of us have been facing weighed heavily as the days ground on.  YHC had made it out for a few runs with some of the Pax, but nothing serious or consistent.

Finally as cases were on the decline (now the opposite), Bells n Whistles moved their AO again (they had previously relocated to Food Lion parking lot due to the closure of Reagan) effectively moving to YHC’s living room.  So, YHC had no excuse not to go out and join the group (they were in my bubble).  So, after a couple of postings, The Singing Cowboy asked YHC to Q.  Well, that was not something that had been done in probably more than 18 months.  This was it.  This was the chance to come off the bench and give back to the Pax and the chance for everyone to laugh at how out of shape and poorly coordinated YHC had become.  Wait a minute.  Who are we kidding?  YHC was never that coordinated and struggled to keep up and heavily modified most workouts.  Then, YHC heard about the closure of The Estate and felt the pull to do one last waltz there and Q’ed there on 12/21/2020.  You would think that would make YHC’s performance perfect as the Q at BnW.  Well. . .

So, for a comeback you need to have a solid plan and a great music selection.  YHC has been known to have musical choices that are guaranteed to displease someone in the crowd, with a range from old school country to modern rap.  What would it be this time?  What would be the theme?  Bonus points if anyone can guess the movie from which the title of the workout is from.  It was settled. Since many of us were spending more screen time lately, why not use theme songs from classic TV shows? The playlist is below for your enjoyment.

We started the music and kicked things off at 0530

Warmarama: SSH, IST in Cadence and a brief mosey up the hill to a conveniently placed cone and back to the parking lot

Curls R, Squats, Curls L, Plank, Run a loop

OH Press R, Goblet Squats, OH Press L, American Hammers, Run a loop

Fly R, Alternating Lunges, Fly L, Penguin Crunches, Run a loop

Single Leg Deadlift R, Swings, Single Leg Deadlift L, Bridge with Bell, Run a loop

Plank for almost a minute to wrap up.

NMM:

Lots of strong work by the crew today and plenty of MC given the lack of need for counting.

Many Pax really appreciated the slight uphill after Wink’s loop for the run portion.  It was appreciated so much that it was repeated by Airbag as an option at this week’s offerring.

We did a modification after a few trips up the hill so that Pax would turn around on their way up when they were met by someone coming back down the hill.  This was a good way for some of the faster Pax to push themselves while YHC didn’t have to die running up the hill.  Major Q fail on the adage of Don’t Q if you can’t do.

The pre ruck was well attended this morning and really is a great way to warm up and get ready for the workout.  Everyone is welcome to come out with or without a ruck.  Or you could join Interference or Data or Balco for a pre run.  The pre work is always a great way to catch up with each other and really a good time for the 2nd F.

Something happened to the music and we ended up closing out the workout with some Chris Stapleton, which made The Singing Cowboy wonder what great shows he was missing with these possible theme songs.

COT:

YHC took us out giving thanks for the opportunity and the ability to be out with everyone this morning.  Also, asked us to keep an eye out for folks who are struggling especally this time of year.

This has been an incredibly tough year for many people on many levels.  Almost everyone has lost something or someone this year and many have lost more than we will ever know.  We can’t fix everything for everyone, but we can offer a hand or an ear, or a shoulder to those around us.  We can be there for them to let them know that they are not alone and that they have a group of Pax willing to help them any time.  Certainly, we have all thought about someone we haven’t seen in a while, or someone that may have had a loss or particularly tough time.  Well, the next time you think about them, reach out to them,  Send them a text, an email, a call or something.  That is what many of you have done for each other and what The Singing Cowboy has done for me this year,  Thank you to him and to all of you for your support and friendship.  I will admit that he was not the only Pax to reach out, he just seemed to always know when to check in.  Again, it is always an honor and a pleasure to be out with you all.
