TRQ Tabata Boogie

QIC: SGT Schultz

Date: August 8, 2019

PAX: Boomerang (co-WD), Seven Layers, SGT Schultz (QIC), Wobegon (Site Q), Ziggy Stardust (co-WD), Zombie (WB)

YHC had the honor of Q’ing this morning’s beatdown at The Rock Quarry, an AO that always attracts the finest and classiest people.  By way of example, in attendance today was a superabundance of Wake Forest Demon Deacons, including alumni both young and young(er), distinguished faculty, and a former standout Demon Deacon gridiron player in Seven Layers.

Having been unfairly and severely chastised for incorporating too much running the last time that I Q’d at #TRQ back in May, YHC made sure to keep running at a (relatively) absolute minimum.  The workout went like this:

WARMARAMA:   A typical medley of SSHs, ISTs, Seal Claps, Overhead Claps, Arm Swirly Things (forward and reverse), Whirly’s With a Clap [This was extremely disappointing, as Whirly had made a HC via text to me last night.  ALAS, he was a no show as he got into a fight with his alarm clock, and the alarm clock lost], standing hamstring stretches, seated groin/butterfly stretches, and, as the Army calls them “the Bent Leg Body Twist.”

THE THANG:    Mosey to the Lido deck, where it (mostly) all happened.    All the way around the Lido deck, YHC had prepositioned lanterns (for visibility) and signs denoting various exercises, coupled with appropriate weights (for the inducement of muscle fatigue).  The exercises were as follows:

  • Jumping Rope (with, you guessed it, a jump rope)
  • Front Raises (with a pair of 15 lb dumbbells)
  • Goblet Squats (with a 35 lb dumbbell)
  • Kettlebell Swings (with a 25 lb kettlebell)
  • Monkey Humpers
  • Elevated Leg Sit-Ups
  • Alternating Leg Step-Ups
  • Dips
  • Derkins
  • Left Handed Bent Over Row (with a 30lb dumbbell)
  • Right Handed Bent Over Row (with a 30lb dumbbell)
  • Burpees
  • Skull Crushers (with single 35 lb dumbbell)
  • Side Raises (with a pair of 10lb dumbbells)
  • Alternating Curls (with a pair of 25lb dumbells)
  • Erkins
  • Overhead Presses (with a pair of 20lb dumbells)
  • Crunchy Frogs

Each PAX began at a single station.   We then went around the Lido deck Tabata style, performing each exercise for 30 seconds, followed by an 8 second rest period to move on to the next exercise, before starting again.   We went around the horn two full times, plus 3 extra exercise stations, before YHC had the PAX begin their return to the parking lot.

On the way up the hill, we stopped where YHC had pre-positioned some ropes, each approximately 10 feet long, with which to perform some Chuck Wagons.  We divided up into 2-man buddy teams, each with 1 rope.  Each PAX took turns running up and down the driveway for about 40 yards with the rope around his waist, with his partner following along behind holding onto both ends of the rope to provide resistance.  Flapjack.  Repeato x 2.

MARY:   We returned to the parking lot at 0613 (with a delay of about 2 minutes while YHC hunted for where I had laid my phone).   Mary consisted of American Hammers and Box Cutters.

FINIS!

COT:

  • Schmedfest is later this month
  • Don’t forget Fender’s children’s charity dinner in September — we need full support and attendance by the PAX
  • Ziggy Stardust’s friend Trevor’s father passed away yesterday
  • Boomerang’s wife’s boss’s nephew, who was 15 years old, was fatally injured over the weekend.  His family made the difficult decision to donate his organs to others, who now may be able to live longer, or have a better life, as a result of their kindness during the worst nightmare that a parent can imagine.
  • Boomerang Prayed Us Out, asking that we as Americans find the way to be able to agree to disagree and have respect one another, for Trevor and his family, for the family of the young man who lost his life, for those suffering from addiction, and for those struggling with family issues
  • Special thanks to Boomerang for gathering all of the exercise Weinkes (17 in all), gathering and turning off all of the laterns (7 in all), and picking up several hundred pounds of weights and very neatly piling all of it up so that YHC could easily load them into my car.   YHC meant to help Boomerang help me, but got caught up in catching up with Seven Layers, whom I hadn’t talked to in a good while.   THANKS, Boomerang!!!! I owe you one!
