Better Living Through Cold

QIC: SGT Schultz

Date: January 30, 2019

PAX: Bluto, Cousin Roy (WD), Manscape, The Singing Cowboy, SGT Schultz (QIC), Zuckerberg

It was a pretty dad-gum cold morning at Bells & Whistles, with the mercury hovering at a balmy 18 degrees.   For a native North Carolinian like YHC, that’s “staying inside” COLD.  Five PAX, soon joined by slightly tardy Zuckerberg, shivered near the flagpole at Reagan High School, anticipating a workout that would hopefully get our blood moving.

WARMARAMA:   A typical assortment of SSHs, Arm Swirly Things, ISTs, Whirly’s With a Social Disease, Abe Vigodas and some standing hamstring stretches.

THE THANG:  The PAX paired off into 2-man buddy teams.   While one teammate ran around the driveway around the flagpole area (approximately 1/4 of a mile), the other teammate hoisted kettlebells in the following manner:

  • Round 1:   Skull Crushers and Curls — alternating back and forth between 10 reps of each exercise until relieved by the running teammate
  • Round 2:  Goblet Squats and Upright Rows — again, alternate between 10 reps of each exercise until relieved
  • Round 3:  Clean & Press with Left Hand & Clean and Press with Right Hand — again, alternate between 10 reps of each exercise until relieved
  • Round 4:   Squat Halos (neck halos while in a squat position) and Kettlebell Swings — again, alternate between 10 reps of each exercise until relieved
  • Round 5:   Squat Thrusters and Front Raises — again, alternate between 10 reps of each exercise until relieved

Return to Round 1 and repeato.   We were able to get through all five rounds twice, which meant that the PAX also ran between 9-10 laps each (roughly 2 to 2.25 miles)

MARY:  We had exactly 6 minutes of Mary and performed it democratically, with each PAX calling out an exercise.  They included LBCs, Box-Cutters, Penguin Crunches, Lo Dollies, a variation on elbow planks honchoed by Bluto and something else that I can’t remember at the moment.

FINIS!

NMM:

  • Not a lot of mumble chatter, as it was pretty cold
  • Zuckerberg was supposed to be in Atlanta for a business conference, but it got canceled due to the Polar Vortex.  Hence, he was able to post today.
  • Bluto expressed that he really enjoyed my song playlist, being especially effusive in his praise of “Stacy’s Mom” by Fountains of Wayne, and more particularly of the utterly fantastic phenomenon that is Rachel Hunter in the music video — a cross generational sentiment as Cousin Roy expressed that he too had a very high opinion of Ms. Hunter’s performance in the video.
  • Bluto reminded everyone of the change in time and location/reboot of Dawg Pound — YHC reiterated my suggestion that the new workout be christened as “The Fyre Festival”

COT:

  • Praises for The Singing Cowboy’s MIL’s continuing improvement and recovery following the surgical amputation of her leg in late November
  • Prayers for the Police Officers shot in the line of duty in Houston on Monday
  • Prayers for victims of a dam collapse in Brazil and a gasoline pipeline explosion in Mexico
  • YHC took us out, giving praise to our Lord for all of the blessings He has showered upon us, as well as thanks for unanswered prayers (there has been some deep disappointment in YHC’s family recently), as He knows what is best.

The PAX soon took off for home, as it was too cold to stand around and chit-chat.

Thanks for the keys, Cowboy!
