Pax: Touch-Me-Not (WB), Quiver, Fingers (WD), Buttermaker, FNG Bella (FKA Brian McFarlin), Red Eye (QIC)

Six pax gathered at Dawg Pound to mark the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend.  YHC initially thought it would be five until Touch-Me-Not careened into the parking lot on two wheels right at 0630.  We had an FNG in our midst, so after giving some semblance of a disclaimer, we moseyed down the road to the ranger station.

Warm-O-Rama

Pax circled up, and Buttermaker was kind enough to warn the FNG that we didn’t really use normal names for just about anything.  He caught on quickly.  Pax completed SSHs, Imperial Walkers, Abe Vigodas, Arm Swirly Things (forward/back), Copperhead Squats.

Tha Thangs

We then made our way to the rock pile down by the river.

Pax were instructed to find a small-ish/medium rock to perform something of a 21 Gun Salute, a long standing Memorial Day tradition to honor fallen soldiers.  Rock exercises done in cadence, 21 reps each:

Curls
Overhead press
Bent over rows
Skullcrushers

We then moseyed to the pavilion by the main road where YHC reminded the pax of two seemingly unrelated Memorial Day facts – that the flower most associated with Memorial Day is the poppy, and the Indianapolis 500 is always held on Memorial Day weekend.  YHC tied the two together in a super intuitive way . . . the POPPY 500.  We partnered up with one pax staying by the shelter to do the prescribed exercise while the partner ran a lap around the parking lot, then switch until 100 reps of each exercise were completed for a total of 500 reps.

P – Peter Parker
O – Overhead clap
P – Pistol squat
P – Plank jacks
Y – Y press

YHC had planned to do the next thing at the Manor House, but since we were getting short on time, we stayed put at the pavilion.

The last part of this beatdown had a connection to Taps . . . Taps has just 24 notes in it but often makes quite an impact anytime it’s played.  Pax ran from the pavilion on the path to where it branches.  At the branch, we did hand-release merkins and then ran back to the pavilion for dips.  We started with 3 merkins, then 6 dips, then 9 merkins, etc. until we finished at the pavilion with 24 dips.

We then moseyed back to the parking lot for some Mary.  LBCs, mutton crunches, penguin crunches, low dolly, plank.

FIN!

COT

Fingers took us out in exceptionally fine fashion.

Prayer requests

Touch-Me-Not noted that roughly to the day six years ago one of his friends was killed in action while serving in Afghanistan.  He also has another friend currently serving there.  So prayers for their family and friends.

Safe travels this weekend.

Announcements

Convergence of Outhouse, Estate and Run & Gun on Monday, 0700 at Leinbach Park.  Murph beforehand for a doubledown opportunity.  VI and Speed Trap at 0530 as usual.

NMM

Welcome to FNG Bella, FKA Brian McFarlin.  Buttermaker EHd him.  Has 2.0s who are into gymnastics and soccer, so named him after Béla Károlyi.  YHC was thinking that the spelling was Bella rather than Béla, but we’ll see if he notices.

Some kind of event at Tanglewood today by the band shell, which Quiver seemed to think was a wine festival.  YHC didn’t see any wine but did catch a whiff of fried stuff.

Small-ish/medium rocks were hard to come by at the rock pile.  Touch-Me-Not searched in vain.

Our form for the pistol squats was, well, lacking.  They sucked nonetheless.

Fingers is available to customize your workout shirt so that it lacks sleeves and neck trim.  Dude is a stitching master!

Thanks for the keys, Fingers.

SYITG,

Red Eye

Solid looking workout Redeye. As a native of the Hoosier State, this weekend and THE 500 are quite special. TMN – thanks for sharing about your friend who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

The best workouts leave you feeling pumped and drained at the same time. This one did just that. Great tie in to Memorial Day and excellent work by all
