Redline is the WORST

QIC: Doublewide

Date: 07.11.2023

PAX: Manscape, Hitman, Interference, Kay, Pinky, Mongoose, Winkelvoss, Chomper, and Balco
Notably absent: Resistor

I hate Redline. I confessed as much to Hitman and Manscape, who were kind enough to let me complain without giving me too much of a hard time. However, I’ve noticed a trend at Redline: the majority of the guys run fast – like, really fast – and show up almost every week. I’ve finally admitted to myself that there’s a connection there and running hills and/or speed weekly, while it definitely sucks, does in fact improve one’s running.

Chomper asked me to Q and I reluctantly accepted, even though my Achilles has been bothering me the last few months and I totally blame a March Redline as a result. (I hate Redline, have I mentioned that?)

The workout was pretty basic. Warmup clockwise around the park and stop at the base of the Intimidator. Up the Intimidator 2 blocks to Jersey, then down to the track. Our track work was also simple: 200m (with a 200m recovery), 400m (with a 200m recovery), 600m, and after each set you were to run back up those same 2 blocks to Jersey on the Intimidator. Few complaints were heard, which is a refreshing change from any usual Qs I have.

Announcements: Chomper is looking for Qs in late August-on. Sign up or I may take another one!

Prayer requests: Pinky and his wife celebrated the birth of their 4th (congrats!) a couple weeks ago that caused Winkelvoss to paraphrase the Gaffigan line: “Imagine you’re drowning. And someone hands you a baby.”

NMM

First time running with Pinky. Couldn’t tell you much about him, because he spent the workout miles ahead of me. Actually, come to think of it, so did Mongoose, Interference, Kay, Winkelvoss, Chomper, and Balco. Those guys show up and crush it each and every week.

It was great getting to talk to Kay, who I had just met. He led the way most of the workout and told me and Chomper afterwards that he is prepping to run a 40 mile (wow!) trail run (WOW!) in October.

Hitman was a great running partner as he always is, although he sucks at “recovering” each 200, since he inevitably would stop walking and start jogging halfway through each one. He pushes me every time I come out to go just a little bit faster than I would on my own. And I appreciate that.

Thanks for letting me Q, Chomper! And I’ve got my eye on those August dates…
