National Best Friends Day seemed like the perfect occasion to test friendships.<\/p>\n
The morning began with a 12-minute partner EMOM consisting of:<\/p>\n
Using a 45-second work \/ 15-second recovery format, the PAX completed four rounds through the rotation.<\/p>\n
With everyone sufficiently warmed up, it was time for the main event.<\/p>\n
The Jenga Tower.<\/p>\n
We took turns rolling a color die and then attempted to remove a matching block from the tower.<\/p>\n
Each color corresponded to a different lower-body exercise:<\/p>\n

| Red<\/td>\n | Bulgarian Split Squats<\/td>\n | 20 total<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n Every successful pull resulted in the entire group performing the exercise.<\/p>\n Every pull increased the tension.<\/p>\n Every pull increased the likelihood of disaster.<\/p>\n And eventually, disaster arrived.<\/p>\n The tower fell.<\/p>\n As is tradition on National Best Friends Day, the identity of the guilty party will remain classified.<\/p>\n The Story<\/h2>\nNational Best Friends Day was intended to celebrate friendship.<\/p>\n Village Idiocy had other plans.<\/p>\n The workout began with partner work, which was well received for approximately one round.<\/p>\n By the second round, mumble chatter had started to increase.<\/p>\n At the halfway point, YHC cheerfully announced:<\/p>\n “Good news, gentlemen. We are halfway there.”<\/p>\n The response suggested that this information was not universally appreciated.<\/p>\n After the third round, Blind Date finally asked the question that was on everyone’s mind:<\/p>\n “How much longer is this going to last?”<\/p>\n The answer, unfortunately, was one more round.<\/p>\n Due to an odd number of PAX, YHC completed the partner work alongside his imaginary best friend.<\/p>\n He is a great listener.<\/p>\n He never complains.<\/p>\n He always agrees with the workout plan.<\/p>\n Honestly, he may be the ideal workout partner.<\/p>\n One unexpected challenge emerged before the tower challenge could fully begin.<\/p>\n YHC confidently explained the rules, reviewed the color assignments, and prepared to launch the game.<\/p>\n There was only one problem.<\/p>\n Purple.<\/p>\n At some point during the planning process, YHC had apparently forgotten to assign an exercise to the purple blocks.<\/p>\n This discovery was made in real time.<\/p>\n The resulting confusion created a brief moment of panic as YHC attempted to determine how an entire color had somehow escaped the planning process.<\/p>\n Fortunately, because we had just spent the previous 20 minutes celebrating National Best Friends Day, the PAX immediately came to the rescue.<\/p>\n Several suggestions were offered.<\/p>\n Most were terrible.<\/p>\n One involved simply doing merkins on leg day.<\/p>\n In the spirit of Village Idiocy, this was deemed perfectly acceptable.<\/p>\n Crisis averted.<\/p>\n The tower challenge resumed.<\/p>\n Once the Jenga tower entered the picture, the focus shifted from exercise to risk management.<\/p>\n Every roll of the die generated discussion.<\/p>\n Every block pull generated concern.<\/p>\n Every wobble generated immediate blame.<\/p>\n As the tower became increasingly unstable, confidence levels dropped and unsolicited advice increased.<\/p>\n Eventually, one block too many was removed.<\/p>\n The tower collapsed.<\/p>\n The guilty party knows who they are.<\/p>\n The rest of us know who they are.<\/p>\n But because this was National Best Friends Day, we have collectively agreed to never speak of it again.<\/p>\n At least not publicly.<\/p>\n Tour Update<\/h2>\nAfter three stops, the Tour continues to move forward.<\/p>\n Still no FNGs have entered the competition.<\/p>\n A reminder to all contenders: showing up matters, but an FNG or two may ultimately be the difference between participating in the Tour and winning the Tour.<\/p>\n The mission remains unchanged:<\/p>\n Show up. Lift your brother up.
