It reminds you of better days because the songs were the soundtrack to some of your most special memories. You reflect. You smile. You realize that even as life goes on and circumstances change you’re always going to cherish the times defined by that music. So you take a moment for yourself and then decide that it’s important for the people you do life with to hear these songs and learn a bit more about your story…you’re still friends with some people from this time in your life but you’ve also made many new friends and acquaintances along the way and your therapist has spoken with you at length about the importance of opening up to create more authentic relationships with others so you sigh deeply and send out an invitation to a large number of people to meet you for a listening session. You’re not sure how it will go, or if you will even speak much about the music or yourself for that matter. But it feels good to begin to share. Has this ever happened to you?

Because that’s basically what Mayhem was yesterday.

Going all the way back into the deep dark year of 2020, there was actually a lot of good for me & my family. I think back fondly on the times our new (at the time) family got to spend together. Long walks with the stroller in the neighborhood, drinks on our front porch and the front porches of neighborhood friends, not working very much, and some really great F3 initiatives (#Speakeasy). Despite all the chaos, anxiety, and turmoil in the world, things in my little bubble were pretty awesome. This workout…doesn’t transport me back there. It doesn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside to think about it. But it was the first time I had Qd at Mayhem post-doubling the number of mouths to feed in my house so I did get to think about that a little bit. Here is the backblast from that day, which was day 3 of 7 straight Qs (WTF was I thinking??).

Today looked very similar to that November morning…see below for the exposition:

WoR: SSH, IST, Whirlies, Mtn Climbers, Jack Reachers, Michael Phelps. Mobile – High Knees, Butt Kickers, Side Shuffles, Cariocas, then mosey to the bottom of the hill to nowhere.

The Thang: Make groups of three. Perfectly planned with 12 in attendance. 3-man grinders…in each group 1 person stays at the bottom while pax 2 & 3 run up the hill. Then pax 2 stays at the top while pax 3 runs back down and swaps with pax 1, who runs up and swaps with pax 2, etc. etc. ad infinitum slash until time is called. Each pax is responsible for their own reps, and the weinke is posted at both the bottom and top of the hill for everyone to keep track of their progress.

75 reps each of

Jump Squats

HR Merkins

American Hammers

Imperial Storm Squatters

Diamond Merkins

Heels to Heaven

Reverse Lunges

Merkins

About 4 minutes of Mary – Gas pumps, Freddie Mercs, and a Thistle.

NMM

Zima has some gripes with the way you people do Whirlies, apparently. Slowpitch is not slow, and Blind Date is not blind. We may need to rethink those names. Drama Queen & Superfly had the misfortune of being in my group, they were crushing it all morning. Van Gogh didn’t say a word about anyone’s form. Rollback needed his weighted vest. Zephyr probably did, too. Both of those dudes were flying. Rubber Ducky can’t not go 110%. Wahoo was the silent assassin this morning, and Subfloor was almost always leaving when I was arriving during the grinder so I just don’t have much to say as it pertains to his effort or execution.

CoT was held. There were announcements and prayer requests shared, the content of which has since been forgotten. Source: trust me, bro.

Rollback, thank you for the keys. I put them on your weight vest so you don’t forget it next time.

Do you ever pull an old vinyl off the shelf, dust it off, and put in on the record player to find it sounds even sweeter than you remember?
