as told in the style of Dr. Seuss<\/em><\/p>\n

Eight whos in the gloom, with their gloves and their grit,<\/p>\n

Set out for Mt. Crumpit \u2014 \u201cWe\u2019ll conquer it! That\u2019s it!\u201d<\/p>\n

They circled the shovel flag, hearts merry and bright,<\/p>\n

Not knowing the Grinch planned twelve pains for their plight.<\/p>\n

Up Crumpit they charged with a WHO-yahoo cheer,<\/p>\n

But the Grinch only smirked, \u201cThey won\u2019t make it this year\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

For when Whos think they\u2019re ready \u2014 when they think they can go \u2014<\/p>\n

He tosses his obstacles twelve layers below.<\/p>\n

They moseyed and burpeed, they squatted and cried,<\/p>\n

They mumbled \u201cOh mercy\u2026\u201d while Rudolphs were tried.<\/p>\n

Toy Soldiers were wobbling, Mike Tysons were grim,<\/p>\n

And the Donkey Kicks nearly unhinged every limb.<\/p>\n

But when they reached number twelve \u2014 that sleigh-riding doom \u2014<\/p>\n

Their hope melted quicker than snowflakes in June.<\/p>\n

They slipped, and they stumbled, they flopped in a heap \u2014<\/p>\n

The PAX looked at Crumpit\u2026 \u201cThis mountain\u2019s too steep!\u201d<\/p>\n

So the Grinch raised his Zima and gave them a wink,<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve survived all my pains\u2026 well, at least I think!\u201d<\/p>\n

Defeated but laughing, they slogged home anew \u2014<\/p>\n

For though they failed Crumpit\u2026they earned their WHO-Q.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

NMM<\/h2>\n

Tonka<\/strong> shot off the line like he was late for Christmas morning, absolutely dusting the field before anyone even knew the beatdown had started. Several PAX suggested we install a governor on him, or at least require snow chains.<\/p>\n

Slow Pitch<\/strong> admitted about ten minutes in that this was his \u201cfirst attempt at the 12 Pains,\u201d which explained the general look of betrayal on his face as the reps stacked. He earned full credit for surviving the \u201cWhy are we still adding numbers?\u201d phase of the workout.<\/p>\n

Dr. Toot<\/strong> provided his usual soundtrack \u2014 a tasteful blend of medical commentary, philosophical musings, and whatever intestinal symphony he\u2019s been fine-tuning over the years. Every PAX within a five-yard radius confirmed the performance was, indeed, live.<\/p>\n

Zima<\/strong> spent half the workout pretending not to be proud that his creation was inflicting this much misery on living human beings. Every time someone groaned, he smiled like the Grinch hearing a Who\u2019s Christmas cry.<\/p>\n

Workbench<\/strong> returned from his months-long sabbatical following the peaceful transfer of power to Rollback. He showed up, did the thing, muttered something about \u201cbeing allergic to cold weather workouts,\u201d and then vanished again into legend.<\/p>\n

Zephyr<\/strong> lived up to his name by drifting through the exercises effortlessly, even though he spent most of the morning trying to remember whether he was supposed to be warming up, cooling down, or philosophizing with Dr. Toot.<\/p>\n

Cruiser<\/strong> cruised. That\u2019s it. That\u2019s the note. The man simply cruised through the gloom with the emotional range of someone checking his mailbox on a Tuesday.<\/p>\n

And Rollback<\/strong>\u2026 He reached for the summit of Mt. Crumpit, almost<\/em> tasted glory, saw the Promised Land, and then\u2014just inches from finishing the 12th pain\u2014gravity, fate, and the Grinch himself teamed up to say: \u201cNope.\u201d So close. So very, very far.<\/p>\n
