{"id":24727,"date":"2025-02-28T17:39:17","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T21:39:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.f3winstonsalem.com\/f3\/?p=24727"},"modified":"2025-02-28T17:39:17","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T21:39:17","slug":"trust-but-verify-or-feel-the-burns","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.f3winstonsalem.com\/f3\/2025\/02\/trust-but-verify-or-feel-the-burns\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Trust, But Verify\u2019, or \u201cFeel the Burns\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A brisk morning greeted nine pax and YHC in the urban confines of our delightful little town.\u00a0 Burns had already dragged YHC around downtown pre-main event, leaving the Q gasping for air and evaluating life decisions before we even started.\u00a0 But we got after it.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Warmarama:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Standard fare.\u00a0 The types of things that incite some people do burpees (and later strain\/tear things from not warming up).<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>The Thang:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mosey a long ways (queue Frostbite\u2019s habitual, \u201cYou know we\u2019re 15 minutes in, right?\u201d) to Corpening Plaza.\u00a0 Upon arrival, the Q informed the pax that today was a tribute to Burn\u2019s \u201cChoose Your Own Adventure\u201d from 2018 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.f3winstonsalem.com\/f3\/2018\/04\/choose-your-own-adventure-at-ua\/\">https:\/\/www.f3winstonsalem.com\/f3\/2018\/04\/choose-your-own-adventure-at-ua\/<\/a>; some guys have gone missing from that lineup).\u00a0 Burns did not remember Qing the workout, but the proof is in the backblast.<\/p>\n<p>We moseyed around the lower level, dropping a piece of cardboard in every corner, each with 2 exercises written on it, all x 15:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Corner 1: Donkey Kicks, Star Jumps<\/li>\n<li>Corner 2: Boot-Slap Squats, Bonnie Blairs (DC)<\/li>\n<li>Corner 3: Dive Bombers, Hand-Release Merkins<\/li>\n<li>Corner 4: Low Flutters (DC), Glute Bridges<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mosey to top level for one more weinke, x 30:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SSHs, ISTs, x 30.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pax were instructed to complete the first exercise in each corner, in any order of their choosing, then mosey up the stairs to the top and complete SSHs.\u00a0 Then mosey back downstairs and complete just the second exercise in each corner, then mosey to the top and complete ISTs.\u00a0 Repeato until time.<\/p>\n<p>Mosey home.\u00a0 Lo and behold, we had 7 minutes for Mary.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Heels to Heaven<\/li>\n<li>Cobra Crunch<\/li>\n<li>Low Dolly<\/li>\n<li>Superman \/ Banana<\/li>\n<li>Plank<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Announcements:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Coffee with the Runs is Sunday at Coffee Perk \/ Crossnore at 0615.<\/li>\n<li>Bagpipe is taking the AO by storm. He has the Q at Alcatraz tomorrow, is taking over Iron Throne on 3\/17, and Mayhem<\/li>\n<li>$5 Footlong has Village Idiocy on Monday, 3\/5, and Conspiracy on<\/li>\n<li>Q School is March 29<sup>th<\/sup> at 6:15. It will teach you to lead an effective Q.<\/li>\n<li>Samaritan Ministries service night is Monday, 3\/17\/25. Let me know if you can serve.\u00a0 We currently need four more guys.<\/li>\n<li>Impossible Situation has moved to a once-monthly format, and tomorrow is the day for March. Prayers for seeing a healthy baby.<\/li>\n<li>Bagpipe\u2019s friend JC has stage 2 cancer.<\/li>\n<li>Frank&amp;Beans was diagnosed with osteoarthritis and is in a lot of pain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>YHC prayed us out.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>NMM:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As mentioned, Burns took YHC by the neck and dragged him along a not-flat run. Burns carried on a one-sided conversation throughout (including where various pax kids were going to high school), and then dominated the workout proper.\u00a0 There were signs, however, that he was somewhat impaired, having no recollection of leading the linked-to workout.<\/li>\n<li>During Mary, YHC lay down in a pile of bird poop, much of which clung to the circa 2020 Iron Pax shirt. Thus, YHC was renamed \u201cBird Poop\u201d in COT.<\/li>\n<li>YHC brought his trusty boom box along for the trip to Corpening, entrusting it at various points to Lamb Chop, Frostbite, and Bevo. Bevo, by far, carried the box with style and pride.<\/li>\n<li>Lamb Chop suggested that Gorbachev or Eisenhower coined the phrase, \u201cTrust but verify.\u201d He was kind of close.\u00a0 It was in fact Gorbachev\u2019s counterpart, the late great Ronald Reagan who used the phrase in the Russian language throughout nuclear disarmament negotiations with the then-Soviet Union.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trust,_but_verify\">https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trust,_but_verify<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Frosty was feeling\u2026frosty towards YHC. Lots of MC, critique of the distance traveled, poor planning &amp; execution, encouragement to go back to Q school, blah blah.\u00a0 Just wow.<\/li>\n<li>Bagpipe came to YHC\u2019s defense when others (guessing either LC, FB, or Bevo) accused YHC of not giving proper instructions. He\u2019s a good man to have to defend you.\u00a0 T-claps<\/li>\n<li>Ludikrous didn\u2019t get much warmup in, arriving just as we were pulling out of warmarama and departing for Corpening. He may have proven correct those agitators who think warmup to be a timewaster by crushing the workout.<\/li>\n<li>$5 Footlong was a smiling and encouraging face all morning. He makes us all better.<\/li>\n<li>Zesty and Tammy have become beasts.
